Fowler Elementary-Leading the Learning

Fowler Elementary School continued to provide solid educational programs for students during the 2010-11 school year. Students come out of Fowler Elementary School with a sound foundation in all the principal subjects, together with many other activities and assignments designed to further develop the student’s knowledge and to build self-assurance. The elementary staff is dedicated to giving our students the best possible start to their education.

   Fowler Elementary students once again scored above the state average on the CSAP tests in every subject and every grade in the areas of reading, writing, math and science. Highlights of the test included:

   The following subjects were above the state average including:

· 3rd grade math 16% higher

·  4th grade math 18% higher

·  4th grade reading 17% higher

·  4th grade writing 15% higher

· 54 % of 3rd grade were advanced in math

· 29% of 6th grade were advanced in math

· 0% unsatisfactory in 3rd and 4th grade writing

· 25% advanced in 5th grade math

  • 23% advanced in 4th grade math.  

   Fowler Elementary Accountability committee met quarterly last year and consisted of 14 members which were represented by staff parents teachers elementary student council members and administration. The accountability committee continued supporting a first-class elementary solid foundation in reading, phonics, spelling, language, writing, mathematics, social studies, science and technology. We continue to have a highly successful Title 1 program, which gives students additional assistance in reading and math. Students who have additional education needs receive Resource Room services customized with an Individual Learning Plan for each student. We provide an afternoon study hall on a daily basis for all students with the instruction emphasis being placed on study skills, organization and increasing educational knowledge. Fowler Elementary students attend both physical education classes and music classes daily. The elementary school has two computer labs with state-of-the-art technology in both and Smartboard Technology in every classroom. One of the main objectives is for our students to be proficient in the technology standards. Positive Behavior Support (PBS) is another ongoing program that is key to the overall success of our school.

   Fowler Elementary offers a wide range of enrichment courses throughout the school year. Band is offered for both fifth and sixth grade students daily. Our Destination Imagination teams have qualified for the state tournament numerous times. Regular classroom teachers implement art activities regularly. For the 2010-2011 school year the 3rd grade helped Fowler School District become “green” by continuing a successful recycling program. Along with the CSAP testing, Fowler Elementary students are also tested on the DIBELS, STAR and NWEA tests to track progress and growth of all our students.

   An important part of the elementary school success is strong parental and community involvement. Parents are active as volunteers in the Title 1 parent night, Book Fairs, Outdoor Education, 28th Annual Fourth Grade Melodrama (which is put on by 4th grade parents), Accountability Committee, Career Day, Climbing Wall volunteers, and Celebrity Readers. Plus, the attendance rate this past year for the elementary school was at 95%.   Fowler Elementary is devoted to giving the students the best possible foundation to their continuing education. With an exceptional staff, immeasurable community and parental support, and incomparable students, Fowler Elementary continues its achievement as one of the most ultimate elementary schools around the state of Colorado.
